About Us
Our primary mission is to provide effective, cost-efficient, and quality psychiatric and counseling services to individuals who have a serious mental illness and are economically impoverished.
JBS Western Mental Health Clinic is a private non-profit organization. Our clients are primarily residents of western Jefferson County, Alabama (the M5-D catchment area).
If you would like to apply for services, you can come into our office and fill out an application. Our application window is open Monday through Thursday between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Please bring proof of identity, income, and residency. If you have received treatment somewhere else in the past, please bring the name and contact information for that facility also.
Outpatient Services
Clinics
The Outpatient Clinics are designed to provide a wide array of clinical services to children/adolescents who exhibit severe emotional disturbance and adults who experience serious mental illness. Treatment efforts are designed to prevent hospitalization and to maximize the probability of staying in the community. Clients are given access to counselors/therapists and nurses, evaluation and monitoring by a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner, emergency services as needed, and referral to/coordination with numerous community services.
Children / Adolescents Clinic
To be eligible, the young person must be between the age of 5-18, must have a DSM-5 diagnosis, must exhibit functional impairments at home, school or in the community, or already be separated from his/her family.
Adults Clinic
To be eligible, the individual must be at least 18 years of age, must have a serious mental illness as defined by the Alabama Department of Mental Health, and be at risk of needing inpatient care without outpatient intervention.
Adult Rehabilitation Day Program (The Village at Avenue D)
Provides long term recovery services to adults with a mental health diagnosis. The program is designed to assist participants with improving mental health functioning; achieving personal life goals, optimizing illness management, facilitating access to community resources based on needs and lastly an overall improvement in quality of life. The program operates Monday through Friday from 8:30am-1:30 pm.
Pharmacy Services (PAP)
Patient Assistance Program
WMHC staff assist clients who do not have insurance apply for medications provided by various pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Emergency Services (24 / 7)
WMHC staff provide emergency crisis intervention 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By telephone only after office hours and weekends.
