On November 6, 2019, the Deaf Services Day Rehab individuals and staff participated in a volunteer project at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. They worked with gardener and Director of Operations for Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Jane Underwood, to pick weeds and beautify the Thompson Garden. The group raked leaves and picked weeds at the Grape Arbor. They also picked weeds and raked one of the fallow gardens used in the Harvest for the Homeless program. This program provides fresh produce to area shelters and community food banks to feed the homeless community. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the activity and were proud of their work to help keep the gardens beautiful and provide food for homeless individuals in the area. The group has decided to volunteer on a monthly basis to work with Jane in working to maintain the gardens.
